3. Backup Your System

Though this extension does not modify standard Magento files, we strongly recommend that you back up your Magento Installation before any extension installation or update.

Copy all of the data from the directory where Magento is installed. For example:

cp -R ../public_html/* ../public_html/.htaccess .
3.2. Create database backup.

One of the ways you can back up the database is to use command MySQLdump. To back up your database you need to know username, password, and database name. This information could be find in app/etc/local.xml.

mysqldump -u <db user from app/etc/local.xml> -h localhost „-p<db password from app/etc/local.xml>“ <db name from app/etc/local.xml> > backup.sql

4. Put store into maintenance mode

To be 100% safe during installation add this code with your IP to index.php just after <?php in the next line, it will put your store into maintenance mode.

 if ($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] != 'YOUR_IP_ADDRESS') {include_once dirname(__FILE__).'/errors/503.php';exit;}

Note! YOUR_IP_ADDRESS should be replaced here to your IP address, which can be obtained, for instance, from this site:
